September Favorites

1. The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, Art by Ellen Forney

I read this book for a book club I am attending at my local library tonight. It is written for young adults, but I think it is very powerful and well written, so it is good for adults too. I've read a review on goodreads.com (where you can read reviews and write them for whatever book you want) that some people think it is too adult for young adults, but I think it depends on the person reading. The main character in the book is Junior and he is a freshman in high school and is going through puberty so that may offend certain types of people. It is about a boy that is an Indian and he lives on a reservation. He decides to change schools and go to a school that is in a nearby small town that has white people because their educational system is better than the school on his reservation. He is seen as a traitor by a lot of the people in his neighborhood. A lot of things happen. A lot of heartbreak, and this book could leave you in tears, but there is a lot of humor in it as well. It is such a good book! I recommend it.

2. Children of the Day by Beth Moore

I am starting out doing this Bible study by Beth Moore. The women's Bible study at my church is reading it. We have different things to do as an individual to work through this workbook a few pages every day to read in 1st and 2nd Thessalonians and answer questions. And then we meet in the Bible study once a week to watch a video of Beth Moore teaching, and we discuss in a group as well what we are learning about and how our lives relate to the study. I have done a study by her before with my friend Mary Lou who recently passed away, and it was really good too about breaking the chains. So I am excited to learn a lot doing this study. I like how she teaches what the original Greek works mean.

3. Ghostbusters 2016

My family rented this movie this month and I thought it was so funny! I think I had heard it got bad reviews and that it wasn't as good as the first two Ghostbusters movies, so I didn't want to see it. On a whim we rented it, and 2/3 people liked it. It is very silly humor. I like the women who starred in it initially, so I thought I may like this one because I like that sense of humor. All the original Ghostbusters make appearances in the movie too, so it is fun to see when they pop up. It wasn't too scary that it freaked me out too bad. Lately, I have not been in the mood to watch real horror movies, so this was more funny to me than scary and that was what I wanted.

4. Anastasia of Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette

This is on my favorites again. I keep using and loving this palette. I love the beautiful colors. Look at those colors! It is like the colors from a leaf that is changing colors. A lot of the Youtube makeup tutorials I have been getting inspired by are using colors like that are in this palette, so I have been using it to copy the looks.

5. Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette

I got this palette for my birthday this month, and I love the colors of peach, oranges, browns, and there is a green and purple too. These colors also remind me of the fall. I have been looking up Youtube videos that people have made using this palette. It is so much fun. It is my hobby. Also, I think the colors look good with my coloring. I am an Autumn person.

6. Bath & Body Works Leaves Candle

I have seen and heard people talk about this candle for years on Youtube. I have watched people's hauls and people talking about how much they love Bath and Body Works candles. I have never gotten their candles before, so with my birthday money I bought two candles. I wanted to get Leaves because I was so curious. It smells so good! It does remind me of the fall. It smells like berries, apples, and nectar. One candle can fill up so many rooms of my home!

7. Bath & Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Candle

I have gotten a pumpkin candle before, so I had a good idea I would enjoy this scent. I love the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin.

8. Jenny Craig

These are pumpkin cakes and the pumpkin loaf that are available now at Jenny Craig. They are so good! I am amazed at how good the food manages to be there even though it is diet food. It helps me to stick with the program because the food tastes good, it is convenient to make, and it teaches me what appropriate portion sizes are. I have lost almost 15 lbs now doing the program. I have a lot of weight to lose, but I'm not going to give up this time! In the past I have felt overwhelmed and defeated, and I would give up. I am learning that even this is a huge mental challenge to get healthy, it is doable and I may slip up from time to time, but I can't just start over again the next time I eat. And make healthy choices the next day. It helps me to meet with my consultant. Also, the Jenny Craig forum has helped encourage me.

9. What A Beautiful Name (Lyric Video) by Hillsong Worship

This is a holy song. It gives me chills sometimes when I listen to it. It helps me feel calm when I am driving, and the words are so powerful.

Here are some of the words...

You were the word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You our Christ
What a beautiful name it is
What a beautiful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my King
What a beautiful name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful name it is the Name of Jesus

10. Feel It Still by Portugal, The Man (lyric video)

This has a good beat. It's a song that you have to move to when you hear it. It is a popular song that I've heard on the pop radio station. I also heard it in Ulta (makeup store). I wanted to start dancing in the store, but I had to restrain myself. I love this song!

11. What About Us by Pink (lyric video)

Pink has such a beautiful voice. She is so talented. Her voice is moving to me. I love it when this song comes on the radio. The words are so meaningful to me.

We are search lights
We can see in the dark
We are rockets
Pointed up at the stars
We are billions of beautiful hearts
And you sold us down the river too far

What about us?
What about all the times you said you had the answers?
What about us?
What about all the broken happy ever afters?
What about us?
What about all the plans that ended in disaster?
What about love?
What about trust?
What about us?

12. Rise by Danny Gokey (lyric video)

This is another inspiring, Christian song. I love it when I am listening to Pandora radio and this song comes on when I am walking. Here are some of it's lyrics...

There's a brokenness inside of you
There's a wound that still reminds you
Of the fear, shame and rejection
You have seen it
You have seen it

You know it's time to get up
But your heart's paralyzed you're so stuck
You're past the point of trying again
You're defeated
You're defeated

But something inside you can't deny
You hear the call of your Creator
Made you for more, unlock the door
I wanna restore your glory

So rise
Breaking the dark, piercing the night
You were made to shine
An army of hope bringing the world
A radiant light
A radiant light
You were made to rise

I made a video and posted it onto Youtube showing my favorites if you want to see what I look like and sound like in real life. I am nervous in the video, so I say "um" a lot I noticed, but if you can get past that you might like this video. Also, please leave comments on my blog or underneath the video. I don't get very many comments so I would love to hear what your favorite things were for the month of September. Count your blessings! And it is fun to share.

Warm Brown Fall Makeup Tutorial Using Modern Renaissance Palette

This is another look I find that is inspired by SMLx0 or Stephanie Ledda on Youtube. She did a look last year using the ABH Mario Master Palette and I found I had similar colors and I could copy her look using mainly the ABH Modern Renaissance Palette.

I downloaded another video of me getting ready on Youtube. The reason why it is so long is because I don't know how to edit the video. I just know how to record myself, and then upload it onto Youtube. It's fun for me to do it, and I think I learn more about applying makeup when i record myself and watch it back. I encourage you to do it if you are studying makeup! You don't need to put it on Youtube of course, but it is fun to watch and to see how makeup transforms your face.

These are the steps of what I did.

1. Tape sides of face.

2. Realgar from Modern Renaissance Palette in the crease, it is a medium-dark orange brown, matte shade

3. Warm Taupe in the crease, it is a medium taupe-brown, matte warm undertones

4. Too Faced Sugar and Spice Palette in Chocolate Cake, You can use any warm dark brown, matte color. I put this along the tape and upper lash line, outer v and dragged it in. This step was difficult for me because I felt like the eyes did not match.

5. Primavera from Modern Renaissance on the lid. This is a light-medium, frosted warm gold.

6. Chocolate Cake, along upper lash line and tape again

7. Cream or yellow highlight under brow blend it down with the crease color. I used the cream from Lorac Pro Palette.

8. Realgar, lower lash line

9. Chocolate Cake, outer lower lash line

10. Lashes

11. Covergirl Cheekers Blush in Soft Sable

12. The Balm Mary Lou Manizer on the highlights of the face and tear ducts

13. Nude Lip Liner. I used Jordana Tawny.

14. Maybelline Matte Lipstick in Almond Rose #565

EOTD: Inspired by the Modern Renaissance Palette

If you're like me, and you like watching makeup videos on Youtube, you will have seen the millions of videos using the Anastasia of Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette. I don't know if maybe they have been sent it for free, and they have some deal to use the palette on a video. Everyone is seemingly loving this palette. I don't know maybe I'm being too cynical. What I like about this palette is the colors are great for the fall time. Also, they look pretty on redheads, on my complexion with my freckles and hair. It just goes really well. I feel like matte eyes, matte blush, and matte lips are so popular right now. And glowing to the moon highlight. The only thing to be glowing is the highlight.

I don't have the palette, and I don't plan on buying it because I have way too much makeup. Too many palettes. I don't need to buy any more makeup for the rest of my life. This look was just using colors I already have to duplicate the same colors that are in that palette.

Here is what I did. It was really easy.

1. Matte, medium brown in the crease, with a fluffy brush, and on the lower lash line. It's ok if it is messy, you can clean it up at the end. Also, make sure you put eye primer on the lower lash line, so the colors will come out more. I love the Milani Eye Primer. You can get it at the drugstore.

2. Matte, medium orange in the crease, and lower lash line

3. Matte, brick color in the crease, and lower lash line.

4. Matte, copper in the outer v, outer lid, outer crease, and outer lower lash line.

5. Matte, dark brown on a fluffy brush on the outer lid and outer crease

6. Now blend everything out, so there are no harsh lines anywhere.

7. For the lid, use a warm, medium-dark brown, with a pearled finish.

8. Black eye liner in my waterline

9. Matte, light cream color under my eye brow.

10. Blend the highlight color with the crease color.

11. I used eye makeup remover to clean up under the eye, and make it look neater under there.

12. Last, I used a golden highlight for my inner corners. My favorite highlighter is The Balm's Mary Lou Manizer.
