Pretty Makeup Looks Spring/Summer 2014
Here are some more pretty makeup looks. These are looks I've found on Youtube that I thought were pretty, and they don't really fit into any category like seasonal, etc. I hope you like these looks as much as I do! I try to describe what the look looks like at the end of the tutorial, so you can read that first to see if it is a look you would like to try out. I use my own makeup to recreate looks. A lot of the time the makeup I use is cheaper than what the makeup artist used. I think if you have a lot of makeup (like me) it is best to use what you have. I hope you find this helpful!
1. GRWM: Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous! by Samantha Schuerman https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVN4zObfG30
a. Face Primer
b. Foundation
c. Concealer
d. Powder
e. Bronzer, hollows of cheeks, temples, hair line, under jaw
f. NYX Baked Blush in Pink Fetish: Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Hot Flash, use a stippling brush
g. NYX Illuminating Powder in Enigmatic, top of cheekbones, cupid's bow, nose: Wet 'n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Rose Champagne Glow Shimmer Palette
h. Eye Primer
i. Brows
j. Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette, Salted Caramel, crease: Wet 'n Wild Vanity, 2nd color
k. Same Palette, White Chocolate, under brow: Wet 'n Wild Brûlée
l. Same Palette, Champagne Truffle, under brow, inner corner: Elf Baked Eye Shadow in Pixie
m. Same Palette, Amaretto, crease, outer v: Disney Sephora Cinderella Palette in Chateau
n. Same Palette, Salted Caramel, blend it out
o. Same Palette, Champagne Truffle, eyelid
p. Same Palette, Cherry Cordial, outer corner: Pacifica Solar Complete Mineral Palette in Sandalwood
q. Same Palette, Creme Brûlée, lower lash line: LA Colors Eye Shadows in Sunflower, 1st color
r. Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Liquid Metal Eyeliner Trio in Nude Eyes, Nude, lower lash line
s. Em Cosmetics Waterliner in Bronze Kiss, upper lash line, wing: Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Custom Eye Enhancing Eyeliner Trio in Warm Nude Eyes, Bronze
t. Mascara
u. Urban Decay Glide on 24/7 Lip Pencil in Naked: Boots No.7 Line & Define Lip Pencil in Nude
v. Kardashian Beauty Au Natural in the Nude Lipstick Duo: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Nude Attitude 001
w. Kardashian Beauty Au Natural in the Nude Lip Gloss: Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Peach Petal
My Thoughts: The palette is using mainly the Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette. These are the colors I have to dupe the palette. I might do a separate blog post on duping the whole palette. The eyes are brown, the cheeks are hot pink so you should use a stippling brush, and the lips are a glossy nude. I don't know how much I like the lower lash line. I made sure to put mascara on the bottom lashes because the lashes were nuded out with the nude liquid liner. It is a pretty warm look if you have warm undertones in your skin.
2. Coral & Mint Makeup Tutorial Kat Von D Esperanza Palette by MakeupByCheryl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZUedeABck4
a. Primer
b. Foundation
c. Brows
d. Kat Von D Esperanza Palette, South, under brows: Wet 'n Wild Brûlée
e. Same Palette, Placebo, crease: Physicians Formula Warm Happy Booster Glow & Mood Boosting Blush
f. Same Palette, Dog Roses, crease: Wet 'n Wild Newport Nights, middle color
g. Same Palette, Archangel, lid: Pacifica Solar Complete Mineral Palette, Mermaid Aqua

n. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim, under eyes: Wet 'n Wild Brûlée
o. Placebo, lower lash line
p. Dog Roses, inner lower lash line
q. Same Palette, Dayglow, inner corner: Disney Sephora Storylook Palette in Ariel, Sick of Swimmin'
r. Nude Liner in the waterline
s. Contour under cheekbones, hairline, under jaw, sides of nose
t. MAC Prep + Prime Pen, nose, bottom of forehead near nose, cupid's bow
u. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant as a blush: Wet 'n Wild Color Icon Bronzer in Reserve Your Cabana
v. Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Incandescent, top of cheekbones, cupid's bow: Physicians Formula Translucent Pearl
w. Jordana Lip Liner in Baby Berry
x. Coloured Raine Lipstick in Candy Girl: Wet 'n Wild Mega Matte Lipstick in Just Peachy
y. Setting Spray: NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray
My Thoughts: I got done doing the look and I thought it looked a little funny, so I decided to go back and watch the tutorial. Sure enough my eyes looked different from her's, so I cleaned off the crease color and just added the coral lightly to the crease, peaking out a bit to look more like here's. You might want to watch the video as you do the tutorial, so you will look more like her. She looks beautiful. The lipstick is a dead on dupe in my opinion. Also, I did a blog post on duping the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders because these are much less expensive alternatives, and I think the results are quite good. Overall, this is pretty coral and mint look. Coral and mint look good together and remind me of the spring or summer. At the end I added powder to my face because she looked more matte than me. Maybe if you have oily skin you should put powder on first before applying the highlighters.

o. L'Oreal Color Riche Caresse Lipstick in Merino Mauve

5. FULL FACE Updated Makeup Routine part 1 by beeisforbeeauty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xm9p_a07KiQ
a. Rimmel Stay Matte Primer
b. Foundation, she uses a damp Beauty Blender, she goes over lips and eyes
c. Concealer
d. Powder, including eyes and lips
e. Benefit Hoola Bronzer, under cheekbones, temples, hairline, jawline, nose. She makes a good point that the area above and below the contour line under the cheekbones should be lighter and highlighted. You don't want to look like you have a beard.
f. Brows
g. Urban Decay Foxy, nose, chin, triangle under the eyes, pat, using the Sigma F80 Kabuki Brush: Wet 'n Wild Vanity, 1st color or you could use Wet 'n Wild Brûlée
h. MAC MSF in Soft and Gentle, top of cheekbones, sides of eyes, right above the contour section where you put the bronzer, patting it on top, bright to the apple of the cheek: Hard Candy Tiki
i. Bare Escentuals Flawless Radiance, pat it more close under the eyes, right on top of the cheekbones, so you get an hombre effect from darkest to lightest
My Thoughts: I think she did an excellent job explaining how and why to contour your face. It was really helpful to me. If I would do it again I would use Maybelline's Baby Skin on my pores first because the highlight by my nose really showed my pores. Or you could use Benefit's Porefessional.

My Thoughts: The eyes are a smoky brown. They really look pretty. It is a lot of makeup, but the makeup all comes together to create a really pretty look. Leina is a good makeup artist and teacher. The cheeks are warm, and the lips are my lips but better. This is a good look if you have warm undertones.

Summer Favorite Makeup Looks Part 3
I'm so happy! Today is the last day of work for the summer! I've had the kind of year where I'm burned out, and I'm really ready for a break. Working at a school is hard. It can be fun, but it also can be stressful. I really have been loving the summer makeup I've been trying out. There haven't been too many "duds." I still have a lot more looks to try out. I hope you like the looks I've favorited. If you try them out, please comment below! It would be interesting to see what other people think.
These are the products that I've used for almost every look, and I just list them one time, instead of every time I write a tutorial.
Concealer: Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Radiant (under eyes), Hard Candy Glamoflauge Heavy Duty Concealer in Light (pimples), Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Concealer in Ivory (eyelids, highlighting, around eyebrows, under eyes)
Bronzer: MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder in Medium Deep, Maybelline Dream Sun Bronzing Powder in Matte Light (dupe for the Mac powder!)
Eye Shadow Primer: Milani Eyeshadow Primer
Mascara: Maybelline The Rocket Volum' Express Waterproof in Very Black (top lashes), Covergirl Lash Perfection in Very Black (top lashes), Maybelline Lash Discovery Mini-Brush Waterproof in Very Black (bottom lashes)
Face Primer: Pixi Flawless & Poreless Face Primer in Translucent
Foundation: Revlon Colorstay Foundation for Combination/Oily Skin in Ivory, Rimmel Clean Finish Matte Foundation in Ivory
Powder: Maybelline Dream Matte Powder in Light
Lip Balm: Maybelline Baby Lips in Quenched
Black Eye Liner: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Zero
Brown Eye Liner: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Brown
Black Liquid Liner: Jordana Incolor Fabuliner Liquid Eye Liner in Black
Black Gel Liner: Essence Gel Eye Liner in Midnight in Paris
Brown Gel Liner: Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Eye Liner in Brown
Nude Eye Liner: Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Nude

d. MAC Warm Soul: Milani Illuminating Face Powder in Hermosa Rose
e. Bronzer on lid, blend into crease, lower lash line

My Thoughts: This is a really simple, natural look. It's good for when you don't want to wear a lot of makeup. I like it.
2. Get Ready with Me Summer Edition by TheMakeupChair http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJC90rEJxjo
a. Concealer
b. BB Cream
c. Mascara
d. NYX Cream Blush in Glow on cheeks and lips
My Thoughts: This reminds me of the first look. It is easy and natural. Good to wear if you don't want to wear a lot of makeup.
3. Get Ready with Me! Beachy Glam Makeup by MakeupByAlli http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijQsMlAZEB0
a. Foundation
b. MAC Saddle, crease: Wet 'n Wild Vanity, 3rd color
c. MAC Pressed Pigment in Day Gleam, eyelid: NYX Natural Eye Shadow Palette, 2nd color

g. MAC Saddle, lower lash line
h. Sigma Highlighting Pencil, matte side, under eyebrows: Milani Shadow Eyes in Almond Cream
i. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener under eyes
j. Revlon Colorstay Concealer in Light under eyes: Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Ivory
k. Ben Nye Cameo Powder: I skipped this step.
l. Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Translucent
m. Mascara
n. Bronzer, hollows of cheeks, hair line, temples, jaw
o. Milani Baked Blush in Berry Amore
p. Milani Baked Blush in Dolce Pink
q. Lip Balm
r. Maybelline Color Whisper in Petal Rebel: Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake
s. MAC Snob Lip Gloss: I skipped this because the lip butter is already glossy.
t. MAC Fix Plus: I skipped this.
My Thoughts: This is very different from the first two looks. This is a lot of makeup! Don't forget eye primer. She doesn't wear it, but I need it. I don't know about you. It's hard to see the Faint color on the upper lash line after using black liner there. I think that step can be skipped. The eyes are really dark. It's a lot of blush. Use a stippling brush. It looks like a lot of makeup on the eyes and cheeks. It is glamorous. I would wear it for a night time look, not for the beach.

q. Wet 'n Wild I Heart Matte, 7th color, lower lash line
r. Mascara
s. Jordana Lip Liner in Baby Berry
t. Elf Matte Color in Natural
u. Essence XXXL Shine Lip Gloss in Big Night Out
My Thoughts: I love looks where it is all drugstore. I had all of these products. I didn't need to dupe anything. I normally don't like wearing two blushes because I feel like it is too much blush. But when you put Maybelline Fit Me Blush on you don't have very much blush. It isn't very pigmented. The L'Oreal True Match Blush is more pigmented. It makes me wonder if she first put on the Maybelline Fit Me Blush and realized it wasn't enough blush, so she put on L'Oreal True Match because it is the same color as the other blush, but is more pigmented. This look is really pretty. It looks good on me, even though I am warm toned and fair, while she is cool toned and tan. I have red hair, she has dark hair. It looks good on me and her. Don't forget eye primer! I forgot to use it, but the eye shadows were still pigmented. It probably won't last very long though.
5. Get the Look: Newport Nights: An effortless look that is essential for your cosmetic bag! (I changed the name, so it wouldn't confuse you like it did me.) This is from a makeup tutorial card you can get for free that was next to the collection. I think they made a mistake with the name of the cards.
1. This is using Wet 'n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Photo OP Eyeshadow in Newport Nights.
2. Apply top right color from lash to brow.
3. Arc bottom right color into crease.
4. Press bottom left color over outer half of lid.
5. Apply middle color at lash line as liner.
6. Finish with top left color at inner corner.
7. Apply gloss over lips for a soft, golden sheen. Wet 'n Wild Fergie Lip Gloss in Fergaluscious: I didn't like this, so I used NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige.
8. Apply 2 thick coats of Fergie Turn Up the Volume Mascara for instant curl and length. (I did my regular mascara routine.)
My Thoughts: Alright, this will be long. I have a lot of thoughts about this look! The name on the card had the wrong palette on it, so it was confusing. I initially made a mistake doing these looks because I got confused with which palette to use. I used Shades of the Hamptons palette because that is the name of this look (on the card), but on the card the picture shows colors from the Newport Nights palette. I had to redo the looks on myself because if you use the wrong palette the look is bad. Once I used, the right palette, I really liked the look. I don't like the lip gloss. It is gold. I feel like it makes me look really pale. It's not flattering. In order to figure out what lip color and blush I should wear I used the tips from this website: http://www.makeupsgeek.com/makeup-basics/how-to-match-your-lipstick-with-eyeshadow/ I have mentioned these ideas in another blog post, I remember. I just can't remember which post it was. The idea is if your eye shadow is in the warm color family, you should wear a cool tone color on your cheek and lip. If your eye shadow is in the cool family, you should wear warm color tones on your cheeks and lips. If it is all the same color family, it will look 80's and just not look right. Watch the video if you want to see this explained better. I would say this eye shadow look is in the warm family. So I should wear a pink lip color. Makeup Geek's favorite cool lip gloss is NYX Mega Shine Lip Gloss in Beige. (It isn't really beige.) For a pink blush she recommends Tart's Blush in Dollface. My dupe is NYX Stick Blush in Tulip. This is a cream blush. I'm going to wear Physicians Formula Happy Booster Blush in Pink on top of it.
6. Get the Look: Shades of the Hamptons: This playful look offers a flash of color every time you blink! (I changed the name on the card.)
a. Wet 'n Wild Fergie Centerstage Collection Photo OP Eyeshadow in Shades of the Hamptons (They made a mistake with the name of the card. I think they also made a mistake with the drawing because the colors are on the wrong place.)
b. Apply top left color from lash to brow.
c. Sweep bottom right color across lid, keep under crease line.
d. Apply bottom left color at top lash line as liner.
e. Apply top right color at bottom lash as liner.
f. Finish with middle color at inner corner.
g. Apply gloss over lips for a soft wash of sheer coral. Wet 'n Wild Fergie Lip Gloss in Hot, Hot, Haute.
h. Apply Fergie Take On The Day Primer before eye shadow so color lasts longer and stays put. (I used the Milani Primer I usually use.)
My Thoughts: It's hard to see the blue on the top lash line. It's also hard to see the pink on the lower lash line, and I have fair skin. It just isn't that pigmented. Maybe I should have wet my brushes. Since the eye shadow is in the cool family, I'm going to wear a peach blush. For blush I'm wearing Covergirl Pretty Peach. Don't forget mascara! It's a pretty green color on the eyelid.

Look of the Day: Complementary Colors
I've seen a lot of people post these as well, so I decided to give it a go. Today I'm getting ready for church. I'm just dressing casually. I'm wearing my new brown top. It has sort of a square neck line, and fake clear jewels along the top. It has peasant style sleeves and a drawstring at the bottom to pull it tight. I have autumn coloring, so brown is one of the colors that looks good on me. Then I'm just wearing jeans and probably my blue Keds.
For my hair, I'm just wearing it up in a ponytail. Today is supposed to get really hot.
Now for my favorite part: the makeup. I have been doing this new thing lately where for whatever color top I'm wearing, I wear the complementary color on my eyes. I found this at Makeupgeek's website. I’ll find you the link. http://www.makeupgeek.com/tutorials/q-a-with-makeup-geek-your-burning-questions-answered/ Someone asked her if she should match her eyeshadow to her clothes and she said no. Actually, it looks nice when you wear the opposite color.
I already have heard that makeup artists largely say the same thing about how to complement your eye color. You wear the complementary color (opposite) of your eye color. So I applied this to my clothes. This has been really fun, so instead of only wearing colors that suit my hazel eyes, I'm wearing colors depending on my clothes. My clothes already complement my warm coloring.
So since I'm wearing a brown top, it is as though I have brown eyes and I need to wear colors to complement the brown. According to my research (i.e. obsessively going around the internet trying to figure out what colors complement brown eyes), I've found out that one color that looks good on brown eyes is green. So my makeup look today is a mainly green eyed look. If you look on the color wheel the opposite of green is red and brown has a lot of red in it, which is why green is considered a good opposite of brown.
Another thing I found out about my own color of eyes (hazel) is that there are a lot of colors that go good with my color. The only color I should avoid apparently is blue, which washes the hazel out. I think wearing navy is ok though.
I took notes on her look so I could copy it using my own colors.

12. Winged Mac Black Track Fluid Line on upper lash line
13. Mascara
14. Bronzer to bring color to face, contour, neck under the chin
15. Mauve cool toned blush because eyes are cool toned on the apples, blend back
16. Rimmel Vintage Pink, cool toned matte lipstick, dabbing on lips
17. Prestige soft peach lip gloss
My Thoughts: I'm going to copy this look, but not exactly. The only products I have the same as her is the Palladio crayon and the Prestige lip gloss. I'm going to skip the black in the waterline because I don't think that looks good on me. I also think it's a little too much for daytime at church. I don't want to look like I have tons of makeup on. Instead of black liner, I may use brown instead. Brown looks more natural on me.
Also, I have a new obsession when it comes to wearing blush and lipstick. This is from the makeupgeek as well. Here is the video that inspired it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOhfYM2p99E
It shows how to match your lipstick to your eye shadow. So according to her you want to wear cool toned blush and lipstick if you are wearing warm eye shadow and warm cheeks and lips if you are wearing cool toned eye shadow. So, since this look calls for cool eye shadow, I'm going to wear a peachy blush and peach lip gloss. She used the lip gloss that I will wear, but I won't copy the mauve blush.
When I start applying the makeup, especially when it gets into putting on the purple and blue shades I may skip it because I don't want too much makeup on. Today is supposed to be 91 degrees!!! That would be silly if I wear a smoky eye, also I don't think it's appropriate for church. I know that's probably silly considering I'm wearing casual clothes to church, since a lot of people would consider that inappropriate. I guess it would look weird if I had on a lot of makeup with such casual clothes too.
This is the makeup look that I actually did wear:
1. Revlon Not Just Nudes, 1st color inner half of lid
2. Palladio Shadow & Liner Herbal Crayon in Olive, outer half of lid blended with finger
3. Wet ‘n Wild Color Icon Palette in Vanity, 1st color, put over inner half cream
4. Maybelline Enchanted Forest, green color, put over outer half olive color
5. Palladio lower lash line
6. Maybelline green color lower lash line
7. Wet ‘n Wild The Gilded Age trio, browbone color as an inner corner highlight
8. Wet ‘n Wild 8-Pan Palette in Petal Pusher, 3rd shade in crease using a fluffy crease brush
9. e.l.f. 32 Eyeshadow Palette, 3rd row, last color, using a small pencil brush to darken crease dimension in eye, not over powering, blend it out
10. Wet ‘n Wild 8-Pan Palette in Petal Pusher, 1st color under brow as a highlight
11. Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Gel Liner for Glam Hazel Eyes in black (no wing)
12. L’Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown
13. NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny to bring color to my face, contour, neck under chin
14. Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso
15. Prestige Skin Loving Minerals Lasting Moisture Lip Gloss in Soft Peach
My Thoughts: This is so pretty! You should try it! Even though I don’t have brown eyes, I felt like it made my hazel eyes pop. I didn’t use a lipstick because I felt like my eyes were all ready pretty dramatic, and I wanted to go light on the lips. I decided the black liner on top wasn’t too bad to do, and I did the purple and blue because I was curious to see how it would look. Hopefully this isn’t too much for a daytime look. I put Too Faced Shadow Insurance so let’s see how well it holds up.
What is your face of the day? Do you over think things like I do? What do you think about the complementary colors idea? Please, feel free to leave me a comment!
