October Favorites

My favorites from last month haven't changed. I just wanted to add new products to the list of favorites. I also wanted to go into a little more depth as to why I chose the products I did for this month.

1. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream: For a couple of months I have been trying different eye creams. My eyes were sensitive to everything. Moisturizers that worked well for my face, made my eyes sting. Even products labeled "eye creams" were making my eyes sting. So finally I asked my mom what she uses. She uses Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream all over her face including her eyes. She has done this for years. She is in her 60's and she has very good skin. I tried this and my eyes love it. It is very moisturizing and no stinging.

2. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash: For over a month I have been seeing a dermatologist to take care of my adult acne problem. The doctor has recommended for me to use a benzoyl peroxide wash in the daytime and a salicylic acid wash in the nighttime. This wash has 2% Salicylic Acid, which is the percentage recommended by the doctor. I have seen improvement on my skin!

3. Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Control Cleanser: I ran out of the benzoyl peroxide wash I used last month which was a favorite. This cleanser I had in my cupboard. It came in a set if I remember correctly. I'm just using the cleanser part of the set because it has benzoyl peroxide in it.

4. L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown: This has been my favorite mascara for a long time now. I have lots of different mascaras, and I try different ones that come out, but I keep going back to this one. It makes my lashes look full and curled. I use this on the top lashes only.

5. Maybelline Lash Discovery Mini-Brush Waterproof in Very Black: I found this on emilynoel83's channel on youtube. She had a video of her favorite mascaras. This one she recommended for bottom lashes. I got this to try out and it really does work great for the bottom lashes. This is the only thing I use now. I use to never put mascara on my bottom lashes because it was too hard for me. I would make a mess.

6. Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel: I don't remember how I heard about this. I must have been searching for the best facial primer. I found that a lot of people use this and find it works just as good if not better than the popular facial primers. I decided to try it. I can definitely tell a difference. My makeup goes on so much smoother if I put this on first. I love this stuff. It has similar ingredients to Smashbox's famous primer.

7. Tresemme Frizz Shield Finishing Spray: I use this just about every day I wear my hair up. It keeps my hair in place and doesn't let the frizzies out too much.

8. Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda -07 Concealer Palette: I still use my Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer from last month's favorites, but this concealer I reached for a lot too this month. There is a greenish shade that helps cover up redness. I had days where I felt like my whole face was red. There is also a salmon concealer to conceal under eye dark spots. There is a light shade to use as a regular concealer and then also a setting powder. This works really nicely. The only thing is that it may not be light enough for my skin. It is for light skin though, I just have very pale skin.

9. Enjoy Sulfate-Free Rejuvenating Volumizing Shampoo: I started using this a while ago. I went to Super Cuts and the lady doing my hair asked what shampoo I used. At the time I always used Pantene Volumizing Shampoos and Conditioners. She said that is the worst thing I could use on my hair. I guess because I have fine hair, all the oils in the Pantene products clogged the pores in my head and would give me dandruff and cause my hair to fall out! I've been using Enjoy ever since and my hair has no dandruff and is a lot improved. It feels really nice on the head. It is cooling and minty.

10. Enjoy Rejuvenating Volumizing Conditioner: This makes my head tingle and thats when you know it is working. I love the way it feels on my head. It reminds me of brushing my teeth, except for my hair. It leaves a fresh, minty, cooling feeling.

11. Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake Shower Gel: This smells so good. Just like it's name. It doesn't last on the skin, but while you are using it in the shower you can smell it. It is one of my favorite scents of all time I think.

What are your October favorites? Leave a comment or post your blog so I can see what you wrote. Have a happy Halloween and November!

L.A. Colors Nail Polish Remover Pads

I heard about these from a drugstore haul video from GOTTALOVEMEL105. She was smelling the pads and looked like she had fallen in love. I had never heard of nail polish remover smelling good. I went to the Dollar Store and found these wonderful pads for only a dollar each. One flavor is in melon the other is in peach. I love these things! They smell so good, and they work too of course. They last a long time. You can use one pad for several nails. There are 32 pads that come in one. You should definitely check them out!

Face of the Day: Pixi2woo Style

Today I copied a look by Pixi2woo. This is the tutorial I used: Fall/Autumn-Winter Wearable Red Lip with Natural Healthy Skin Makeup Tutorial.

1. Foundation. I don't know what she used, but I like to use Laura Mercier Oil Free Foundation in Blush Ivory.

2. Concealer. I don't know what she used, but I used Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour Concealer in Ivory.

3. She did her brows using Mac Charcoal Brown and an angled brush. I skip this step because my eyebrows are very full.

4. Bronzer on cheeks, temples, nose, and chin. I don't know what she used, but I used NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny.

5. Highlighter top of cheekbones and browbone. Again I didn't record what she used, but I used Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent Pearl.

6. She used Bare Escentuals Nude Beach on her lid. This has a glossy, shimmery effect. I used NYC Sparkle Eye Dust in Champagne.

7. She used Mac Charcoal Brown with a 217 brush through the crease using a tiny amount. I used my dupe of the 217 brush which is the Loew-Cornell 1/4 amm mini mop (green handle) I got at Michael's Craft Store. For Mac Charcoal Brown I used a dark brown shadow I had from the Wet 'n Wild Color Icon Vanity Palette, 3rd shade.

8. Mascara only on top. I used L'Oreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara in Black Brown.

9. She used Mac Dubonnet lipstick. This is pretty dark. The darkest, and reddest lipstick that I feel comfortable wearing and that I think looks good on me is Elf's Voodoo Lipstick.

This look is so pretty! The eyes are very simple, but are stunning. They are natural because the lip is supposed to be so strong. Definitely give this look a try. It is very easy to do, and looks really beautiful.

Get Your Freak On Tag

This is a tag video that is popular on youtube right now. Here are some youtube examples. Eleventh Gorgeous did this tag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOrNl0zI_gU. Also, Samanthaschuerman did this tag: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHKdvbDt7hs. You answer 15 weird facts about yourself. I decided I wanted to do it too.

1. What's a nickname only your family calls you? When I was little my parents called me "Boo Boo" or "Pumpkin." Sometimes they still will call me that.

2. What's a weird habit of yours? I'm always checking my youtube subscription box to see if there are any new videos.

3. Do you have any weird phobias? I am sort of afraid of people to be honest. I can be very shy. I'm also afraid of bees and snakes.

4. What's a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you're alone? I like that song by Lady Antebellum, "Need You Now."

5. What's one of your biggest pet peeves? I don't like getting cut off when I'm driving. I mean if I'm going too slow, than I understand if someone cuts me off that doesn't bother me. But when I'm driving normal speed and someone does that only to get ahead of me and they are going the same pace as me, that really annoys me.

6. What's one of your nervous habits? I don't know if this is a habit, but when I'm nervous I have a hard time making eye contact sometimes.

7. What side of the bed do you sleep on? right side

8. What was your first stuffed animal and it's name? I loved my Precious Moments camel when I was a baby. I didn't name it because I was just a baby.

9. What's the drink you always order at Starbucks? I don't go to Starbucks, but a long time ago I remember going there and getting a raspberry chocolate drink that was really good. I don't know if they still make that.

10. What's a beauty rule you preach, but never actually practice? I don't preach any beauty rules. I try to follow the rule where you only use your ring finger around your eye, but I forget sometimes and use other fingers.

11. Which way do you face in the shower? I face all the different ways.

12. Do you have any 'weird' body 'skills'? I can bend my thumb back and my fingers. I'm double jointed in my fingers.

13. What's your favorite comfort food that's 'bad' but you love to eat it anyways? I have a lot of those. Currently, I'm loving the pieces of vanilla cake you can get at Safeway.

14. What's a phrase or exclamation you always say? I say "Good Job!" a lot at the school I work at.

15. Time to sleep, what are you actually wearing? t-shirt, pj pants, hoodie if it is cold

16. What did you used to wear that you thought was cool but now you realize it wasn't that hot? I used to wear long black skirts and blouses back in 8th grade. I wanted to look artistic like these older girls I knew. I think I was trying to look bohemian but I just ended up looking weird.

I tag anyone who just read this tag! That means you have to answer these questions on your blog. Leave a comment with a link so I can read it! Hope you guys are having a nice day.

Birchbox October 2011

I'm sorry to say, but once again I was disappointed with this month's Birchbox. I feel bad about it. I feel like I should feel grateful or something. The best part about it is seeing it arrived. I get so happy to see the box and feel the anticipation of what could possibly be inside.

This is what the card says about each item, and then I will tell you what my opinion is for each.

1. Befine Lip Serum: A lip-healing wonder: Befine's vitamin-rich Lip Serum heals and smooths cracked or dry lips. My Opinion: This really moisturizes my lips. Much more than a chapstick or lip balm. I put it on this morning and I still feel it on my lips. I think next time I will put it on before I go to sleep.

2. Blinc Mascara: This tubing mascara won't smear, smudge, or run - plus it gives lashes a sassy, extra glossy look. My Opinion: This seems like an ordinary mascara to me. I know I will have to take it off differently though. You use warm water and gently take off the tubes around each lash. It sort of worries me. Am I going to lose lashes?

3. Pangea Organics Japanese Matcha Tea Facial Mask: This natural, antioxidant-packed mask does it all: purifies, exfoliates, balances, and hydrates. Use it once a week for skin so smooth you won't even need makeup. My Opinion: I am currently seeing a dermatologist for acne treatment so I'm just using products my doctor has recommended or prescribed to me. Also, last month the Pangea Organics product was a real dud for me, but my mom loved it. I gave the sample to her, and she loved it so much she wanted me to buy it for her. I bought it for her, so I gave this mask to her too thinking she might really love it. She is in her 60's, so her skin has different needs than mine.

4. Orofluido Beauty Elixer: We don't know what we love more - this hair treatment's trio of nourishing essential oils (argan, linseed, cyperus)or its intoxicating vanilla amber scent. My Opinion: It smells good when first put on, but once my hair is dried I can't smell it. I didn't notice that it did anything special for my hair. My hair still looks frizzy. I still needed to use other products and my straightener.

5. Tea Forte Minteas: Our new obsession, these tasty mints are infused with energizing yerba mate and rich cocoa. My Opinion: These taste good, but they just seem like regular mints to me, nothing special.

Maybe I am a snob against expensive beauty products, but I don't see how these are anything better than I could find at a drugstore.

Duping Estee Lauder's Modern Mercury

One of my favorite Beauty Gurus on Youtube is A Model Recommends. She often times will show looks using brand new collections of very expensive makeup like Estee Lauder or Nars. She recently did a fall tutorial using Estee Lauder's new fall collection called "Modern Mercury." This is my cheapy dupe of it.
Here is the tutorial first of all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkzFiuERILI

1. First, she uses Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Duo in Platinums. She takes the white sparkly color from her lashes to her brows. I used my Wet 'n Wild Color Icon Palette in Pride, the 4th white sparkly color.

2. Next, she takes the darker color from the Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Duo in Modern Mercury. This is a gray color. She uses a fluffy brush to put it from her lashes to her brows. I copied this by using my Elf 32 eyeshadow palette in Brights that has a gray color 4th on the bottom row. I didn't know if this would look good on me. Of course I think everything looks good on her because she is a model. This actually did look pretty on me.

3. Then, she used Estee Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee under her brow as a highlight and buffed it on the top of her cheekbones with her fingertips. I used Elf Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal.

4. After that she used Estee Lauder Eyeshadow Duo in Moons. I couldn't find that on their website. It maybe something just in the UK or perhaps she made a mistake. In the collection there is a Duo called Black Chrome that comes with a black matte color. This may be the shade she's referring to. She used this as an eyeliner doing a top flick at the end and also lining her lower lashes with it. I used my matte black in Wet 'n Wild Color Icon Palette in Greed, the 3rd color.

5. For her lipstick she used Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick in Nude Velvet. This is a peachy tone, matte color. It didn't make her lips look dead or concealed. It was just a pretty, neutral color on her. I used my Victoria Secret Smooth FX Lip Scrub & Balm to prep my lips. Then I lined and filled my lips in with No.7 Line & Define Lip Pencil in 20 Nude. You could use any nude lipliner.

6. For everything else I'm sure she used the regular face products and mascara. She didn't mention anything specifically. I just used what I normally use. I didn't wear any blush.

Makeup Storage

I don't have a lot of makeup, but I've wanted to a "how I store my makeup" blog for a little while. It's not as organized as some people that you see on youtube.

This is the top of my desk. It is right by a window so I get good sunlight to do my makeup in. I have my brushes set up on top. I put all my Elf brushes in a cup. All my Ecotools brushes in a cup. All my random brushes are in a mug. My Confidential brushes are in a long vase I got from Michaels. I got sand to make the brushes sit upright. I got the sand from Michaels too.

To the side of my brushes I have a shelf. On top of the shelf I have a little container where I store my pencil eyeliners and the other container stores my gel eyeliners.

To the right of that I have q-tips and Maybelline Eye Makeup Remover.

Underneath the shelf I store my eyelash curlers and mascaras. I also have little tools I like to use like my brush cleaner, a squirt bottle with water in it, a cut card that I can use to do my mascara, and eyebrow tweezers.

Underneath I have a set of drawers. In the top drawer I have all my eyeshadows. It is sort of organized because I have things stacked. Like all my Physician Formula shadows are stacked on top of each other. All of my Revlon Creme Illuminance Shadows are stacked. Same with my Wet 'n Wild palettes. Everything else is sort of just stashed in the back.

The next drawer holds all of my face makeup. Actually, I just realized some of the face makeup isn't in there. Oh, well. So this is where I hold my foundation (even though it isn't in there). My primers, my setting sprays, my concealers, and my highlighters.

This is one of my favorite drawers because it is the most organized, and it looks pretty. I have my lipsticks and lip stains in a container. My lip glosses are organized by brand and the random ones are put in the middle. The little container in the back holds all my lip balms, lip scrub, and chap sticks.

This drawer is the opposite of the last drawer it is very messy. It has all of my blushes and bronzers. There is no organization here whatsoever.

This drawer is where I keep all of my palettes. I have a lot of Elf palettes and Wet 'n Wild 8-Pan palettes. I also have a Sephora palette and a Sonia Kashuk palette.

This is what it looks like under my desk. I keep makeup wipes, cotton rounds, makeup sponges, and that purple box on the left is my new Urban Decay Bride Kit box. I also have a pink satchel under there.

In my Urban Decay Bride Kit I store some of the things that came in the box, and also other Urban Decay things that I bought from a sale they have had, the creme shadows!

On the very top of everything I keep my nail polishes. There is also some more brushes that I don't use very often and nail polish remover.

I hope you have found it helpful. I like to see people's makeup collection because that gives me ideas for how I can better organize my makeup.

Essie Wrapped in Rubies: Autumn Leaves Nails

On one of the blogs I love to go to, nouveaucheap.blogspot, I read about a limited edition nail polish shade by Maybelline. The shade was called, "Autumn Leaves." I decided to hunt for it, but was disappointed to not find it anywhere. Well, I guess a lot of other people had done the same thing and wanted to know a "dupe" or a copy of that nail polish color. The writer of the blog found a dupe! Go to her blog to see what she had to say, http://nouveaucheap.blogspot.com/2011/09/possible-dupe-for-maybelline-autumn.html

The dupe is Essie Wrapped in Rubies. It's a beautiful red color.

I love the autumn colors I'm starting to see all around me. I want the makeup I wear to copy it, and I have been inspired. I love the cool breeze and sunshine. It definitely feels like fall is here.
